With far too many individuals injured annually by undiscovered landmines, the need for low-cost, durable, and easily-incorporated prosthetics continues to grow. The Jaipur Foot can be used with or without shoes, is flexible along multiple axes and allows for natural movement of the foot. Ram Chandra Sharma, a craftsman, and Dr P. K. Sethi, an orthopedic surgeon, designed this improved version of a conventional prosthetic foot. Named for the town where it was designed, the Jaipur Foot’s technology is based on traditional craft using small local production methods, and has already helped over 900,000 amputees in developing and landmine-affected countries.
